The Macon County Art Association

The Macon County Art Association (MCAA) is the owner of the Uptown Gallery in Franklin, North Carolina. MCAA has been active in area arts for over fifty years, and opened the gallery over twenty-five years ago.  We are incorporated as a nonprofit organization as defined by North Carolina and United States federal tax laws (501(c)(3)).

The Intent or vision and the purpose or mission of The Macon County Art Association are the foundations of our organization's plans.

Intent
The Macon County Art Association is a community of artists and art patrons in Franklin, North Carolina, that promotes two- and three-dimensional visual arts and encourages artists of all ages.
This statement is the picture of what we want our Association to look like in the future.  We are building an association that can credibly represent itself as encompassing all two- and three-dimensional static visual arts, the artists in the area producing them and the supporters of these arts.  We are building an Association to promote these arts throughout the community and educating the community about these arts.  We look forward to an Association not bounded by the confines of the classroom or the Uptown Gallery but one that takes art out into the community, to people young and old.

Purpose
The Macon County Art Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to:

  • Providing a non-juried venue for supporting artists in Franklin, Macon County and the surrounding area;
  • Promoting art and art appreciation through education and exhibition;
  • Supporting the work of artists and art endeavors such as the school arts programs ;
  • Supporting the work of other nonprofit organizations through art;
  • Supporting the economic development of our community through participation in community endeavors.

We enrich the community through art education by offering opportunities such as lectures, workshops, ongoing classes for children and adults, and scholarships.  We host a weekly open Painters’ Group and sponsor monthly educational meetings and we encourage the community to attend our programs.  We participate in fundraising opportunities for our local arts programs and other charities and bring Bascom children's and young people's programs to Franklin at the Uptown Gallery and run art camps for children at the Uptown Gallery and the Bascom.

The Macon County Art Association provides artists with a welcoming, inspiring atmosphere and opportunities to network and socialize with other artists.  MCAA members run Uptown Gallery, a cooperative gallery showcasing members' works, and provide other opportunities for our members to exhibit and sell art at offsite and outdoor shows. These opportunities for artists also provide revenue to the organization to support its programs, scholarships and charitable work.  Our dues structure offers levels to suit artists from high school students to professionals and supporters of the arts in our community.  Please join us!
