Bonnie Abbott

Acrylics Painter
Fiber Art and Dyed Clothing
Bonnie Abbott moved to the mountains of western North Carolina in 2011, after living in Charlottesville, Virginia, for twenty-five years. There, she raised two children, taught art at St. Anne’s-Belfield School and pursued two artistic passions. She painted in watercolors, moving from more traditional methods to pouring paint into dramatic and patterned abstract art. She also worked in batik and employed other surface design methods such as direct dyeing and painting, quilting, and embellishing fabric for wall hangings and clothing.

Here in North Carolina, Bonnie continues to paint in watercolor, expressing her love for birds. She has discovered the immediacy of spray paint, using all kinds of natural material as stencils in her large acrylic paintings as well as on her own mats for her watercolors. Bonnie has also turned her attention back to her old love of surface design and is now producing dyed clothing and wall hangings with a variety of embellishments.

Bonnie teaches art classes for children at the Uptown Gallery on Wednesday afternoon. Please contact the Gallery or Bonnie 828-743-zero two zero zero.
