When I was in the 1st grade and had to draw lettuces for a math problem, I recall drawing “curly circles” to represent the leaves of lettuce. My teacher made a point to tell me that she liked my pretty lettuces. I think this was the moment I realized I had artistic talent. I took art classes in high school and enjoyed drawing, mostly sketches and pen & ink. Fast forward many years of parenting, marriage and a professional career where my artistic talent was occasionally needed for a project but not a priority.
I retired in 2019 from a career in working with non-profits and government agencies and found a renewed interest in painting. I discovered watercolors and decided to enroll in an online school. In the school I have focused on realism in painting botanicals. I want to paint every flower I see! In addition to realism, I enjoy drawing and painting whimsical pictures of cats, flowers and still-life arrangements. Most of my time is spent with watercolors though I do occasionally use acrylics. Using watercolors, I paint on both paper and canvas. I can get lost in painting and realize many hours later that time has flown and, I have a very stiff neck!
My other interests include traveling, making jewelry, gardening, making yard art out of found objects and spending time with my family. My husband and I have a cabin with a Cullowhee address located on Little Hogback Mountain. We love North Carolina especially hiking in the mountains and enjoying the natural beauty. We spend a great deal of time here in the spring, summer and fall months.
We also live in Lawrenceville, Georgia with our two cats,Spike and Lucy. We have four adult children and seven grandchildren and love spending time with them.
