Luis Carlos Fernandez

Hello and welcome to my little corner of the world. I'd like to share some insight into who I am and how I got here. I was born in Alajuela, Costa Rica, a beautiful country with rich traditions and spectacular beauty and wildlife. If I had a choice, I could not have made a better one. I enjoy going back to visit family as often as possible. I was raised in upstate New York in a small town where everyone knew their neighbors by name and as kids we spent our days playing kickball at the park or building forts in the woods. My love of nature and the outdoors started early.
I was fortunate to spend my formative years in the 60s, 70s and 80s. I must say, a lot has changed over those years! My creative spirit was sparked at an early age by my family. I watched my father paint psychedelic posters in the 60s and copied cartoons my cousins were drawing in the 70s. My grandfather (a master carpenter) fueled my desire to build things by hand. I spent many hours in our basement hammering and sawing and seeing just what I could make out of anything I could find. My imagination was, and still is, endless. My eyes see the beauty in my surroundings, my hands are eager to create and my mind is full of wonder, curiosity and drive to try new things. I am so thankful to my family and friends for the spark that continues to burn.
My work comes from my need to be creative. My celebration of things I enjoy and my way of giving back to my creator -- my gratitude of the gifts he has given me. I am eternally grateful for this life I was blessed to live. My work is my way of saying thank you. Creating things pleases me, and the process of creating soothes and challenges me. Art, to me, is in the process. Color, shape, form and texture are the ingredients. To create makes me feel alive and to share and have others enjoy my work, makes me feel fulfilled.
