Members' Handbook

Information for all members

All Macon County Art Association members enjoy all membership privileges with the exception of those open only to exhibiting members such as Uptown Gallery and other display opportunities.

Upon joining the association, members receive an information packet containing information about the membership and governance of MCAA.  Exhibiting members are given additional information on Uptown Gallery policies and hanging procedures.  If you are not a staffer but would like to help staff the gallery as an alternate, should needs arise, please contact the gallery director who will schedule a training session for you.

Member Responsibilities

As an Art Association member you have certain responsibilities.  Foremost is to be involved in as many activities as possible.  We hope you'll volunteer 50 hours or so of gallery staffing per year.  Your help is vital in keeping the organization going and the Uptown Gallery open.  Apart from the opportunities we provide for you to network, learn and create, the association participates in many community activities.  We organize and staff the Macon County Fair fine arts competition and display in September, and there are festivals on Main Street and events at the gallery every month, especially throughout the summer and through to Christmas.  Our special projects not only benefit the community but also benefit the association through grants.  Do you like to teach children or adults?  Offer a workshop or help at our kids' classes or our Paint 'n' Party events.

The Uptown Gallery always needs help in maintaining, cleaning and tidying the gallery, education room and storeroom.  Contact the Director of Facilities to help.

The Displaying (aka Hanging) Committee changes the exhibit every other month from May to December, generally on the first Monday before opening time and would appreciate help.  During the winter and early spring, from January through April, we allocate spaces to individual displaying members if they choose to display work during this time.  It is each artist's responsibility to maintain this space.

You can also help by taking responsibility for readying "minis" for sale (contact the Gallery Director), maintaining the library (contact the Membership Director) and helping with publicity and fundraising events (contact the Vice-President for Marketing).  Do you have expertise to share?  Contact the Vice-President, Education.  We need people to help with lots more, so if you are willing to help staff the gallery, doing bookkeeping, taking notes at meetings, maintaining the website or anything else you see has to be done, just let us know.

Just want to paint or draw?  Come and work in our window - just call the gallery to let the staffer know when you'd like to do that.  We always need volunteers!  You'll find that the more you do, the more fun you'll have!

Attend as many monthly meetings as you can. The speakers are artists and artisans who have beneficial ideas to share. This is an easy and enjoyable way to keep up with association concerns.  Our socials and galas are always amazing!

Keep your contact information up to date so that we can reach you.  This will help in informing you of changes in meetings, class schedules and other matters.  Exhibiting members are contacted when their work sells so that they can replace it and an old address in our records might result in payments going astray.  Make sure your website information is correct if we are linking it to the Uptown Gallery website.

If you have any questions or concerns contact the President or the Board member responsible.  Be honest in representing yourself and your work to the association and the gallery.  Treat fellow members and their work with respect.  Represent the association to the best of your ability.  Have fun with your art!

Gallery Newsletter

The newsletter is published every month (except January when the Gallery is closed) and is sent electronically to members with email.   Members who do not have email may pick up a newsletter at the gallery.  If you don't receive your newsletter, please contact the secretary.  Of course, you may also read it online at the website.

Email

Email alerts are sent to members to notify them of important association news.

Telephone Committee

Members may be called to remind them of meetings and inform them of upcoming events.

Member links to the website

All members are listed on the website.  We do not promote individual members' events unless they are sponsored by the art association, but all members may have a website linked to the Uptown Gallery website.  The charge for this is included in exhibiting member dues; partner and student members may have their websites linked at a cost of $30/year in addition to membership.  If your website address changes it is your responsibility to let us know.  From time to time we offer website design classes for our members to design their websites using the web host Weebly.  Please contact the website administrator for details.
