President‘s Message
 
2021 has flown by. MCAA will vote in it's new slate of officers on November 14, at the Membership meeting. Hope all MCAA members will attend.  I would like to encourage all of you to become involved, either as a chair or committee member, for 2022. Please contact Pat Mennenger or myself if you can step up and help.
 I would again like to thank everyone who has given their time and efforts throughout 2021 to help Uptown Gallery and MCAA grow and strengthen it's community ties.
2022 is our 60th anniversary year let’s make it a fabulous one!!!!

Teachers for Workshops and Classes

If you are interested in teaching a workshop or a class, email mtully1001@gmail.com. We would like to offer two workshops a month along with our ongoing classes.

Scholarship Contribution
Macon Middle School history teacher, art club sponsor and oil painter Chris Bell is organizing an art history trip for his deserving 8th grade students to London and Paris in June 2022. If you would like to make a contribution to help these middle school students visit the Tate Gallery, the National Gallery, the Louvre, Musee d’Orsay and the Paris Museum of Modern Art send your donation to the following. Checks can be  made out to Macon Middle School (and then in the detail section "trip") , mail to Macon Middle School, 1345 Wells Grove Rd., Attn: Chris Bell.  Thanks again for your support.

Demonstrations

Please contact mtully1001@gmail.com if you are interested in presenting a very short program or informal art activity at our membership meetings. October and November are open and we are in need of volunteers. Thank You fiber artist Jeanne Workman for your scheduled demonstration at the September meeting.

Pumpkinfest and Witches Walk
CONGRATULATIONS to Cathy Casano for her tireless efforts in planning, designing and creating an all-time record of sixty beautiful witches hats. She donated 100% of each purchase to the gallery. Cathy also created and spearheaded our Second Annual Witches Walk which was a wonderful success. Witches came from near and far to participate. Thank you for all your time and effort Cathy!!! MCAA would not be the community of artists it is without YOU!

 Stores and Uptown Gallery will remain open from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. during October and November. A perfect time to schedule your Pop-Up table. Call Margie Kellam, (828) 369 9802 to reserve your spot.

 60 YEAR CELEBRATION
Macon County Art Association will celebrate 60 years of active membership and 30+ years of operating Uptown Gallery in 2022. If you would like to be part of the celebration committee or have ideas for a year-long awareness campaign about arts in Macon County, please contact MCAA member Jamie Starbuck Plant at jamiestarbuck@hotmail.com

The Uptown Gallery of Franklin, operated by the Macon County Art Association founded in 1962, shows the work of 30 local artists in painting, sculpture, fabric, jewelry and clay. The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and Wednesday and Sunday by appointment.
 
MCAA members offer public classes in a range of artistic mediums to both individuals and small groups. Contact the gallery for more information about classes or membership at franklinuptowngallery.com or at 828-349-4607.

​Debra Carrol is a mixed media artist who relocated to Franklin two years ago. She is a native North Carolinian and has volunteered to chair the November Winterfest.

​Painter Amy Phillips, lives and works in both Tampa, Florida, and Sky Valley, Georgia. She captures the beauty of landscapes in oil and acrylic paint. She is interested in portraying light, reflections and focus in a painterly style.

​Cheryl Harris uses watercolor paints to create a variety of themes. Landscapes, still life, flora and fauna are all subject matter she enjoys painting.
